What this actually means
Fraktur is the blackletter style people mean when they search for a gothic or old-English font, and Unicode carries a full alphabet of it — again for mathematical reasons, where a Fraktur letter denotes an algebraic structure. It arrived in the standard for the same reason bold and italic did, and it is available to you for the same accidental reason.
It is the strongest-flavoured alphabet in the set, which makes it the least flexible. Fraktur says something quite specific — heavy metal, tattoo flash, a certain kind of streetwear — and it says it whether you meant to or not. Used on one word it is a deliberate look; used on a whole bio it overwhelms every other decision on the page.
What goes wrong
Blackletter capitals are genuinely ambiguous, and that has practical consequences. The Fraktur I and J are close enough that people misread them, and lower-case n and u are near-mirror images at small sizes. If a line contains something someone has to retype — a handle, a discount code, an email — Fraktur will cost you conversions in a way no other style here does.
Fraktur has no digits either, and the gap hurts more here than anywhere else in the set because blackletter is so visually distinct. A plain upright “2026” next to blackletter letters does not read as a mixed style, it reads as broken rendering, and people will assume the font failed to load rather than that Unicode never had those characters.

How do I get gothic or old-English text on Instagram?

Why are the numbers not gothic?
