JPG · PNG · WebP · AVIF · GIF — up to 6000px. Portraits and profile pictures work best.

Got a video? Grab the frame you want with FrameForge, then bring it here.

Your photo never leaves this tab. CutOut downloads the matting model to your browser the first time you use it, then does every pixel of the work on your device — there is no upload step, no account and no server that ever sees the picture. Use it only on images you have the rights to.

CutOut — questions, answered

How do I remove the background from a photo for free?

Open CutOut, drop in your photo, and the cutout appears in a couple of seconds — then download it as a transparent PNG. It is free with no credits, no watermark and no resolution cap, because the AI model runs on your own device instead of a server we have to pay for.

Is there a background remover with no resolution limit?

Yes. CutOut mattes at a reduced size for speed but composites and exports at your photo's full original resolution, so a 12-megapixel shot comes back 12 megapixels. Most free tools downscale exports to about 0.25 MP and charge for HD; there is nothing to meter here.

How do I make a transparent PNG for a profile picture?

Drop your photo into CutOut, leave the backdrop set to Transparent, and export as PNG — the alpha channel is preserved. Switch the crop to 1:1 first and you get a square, profile-picture-ready file at the size Instagram expects.

Can I remove the background from a product photo or a video?

Product shots that contain a person work well; objects on their own are hit and miss, because CutOut v1 uses a portrait matting model. Video is not supported yet — grab the frame you want with FrameForge, then bring that image here.

Does the background remover work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in any modern mobile browser — there is no app to install. The first run downloads the matting engine once (about 20 MB) and caches it, so later cutouts start instantly and work with no connection at all.

Is my photo uploaded to a server to remove the background?

No. The model file is downloaded to your browser and every pixel is processed there, so your photo never leaves the device. You can confirm it in your browser's network inspector: after the model loads there is not a single upload request.

About CutOut

CutOut is a free, on-device background remover from shotMod that erases the background from a photo and hands you a transparent PNG at full resolution. Drop in a picture, wait a couple of seconds while an AI matting model separates the subject, then export it as-is or drop it onto a solid colour, a gradient or a photo of your own. There is no login, no account and no API keys.

The matting model is downloaded to your browser once and runs there, which is why nothing is ever uploaded and why nothing is metered: no credits, no watermark, no resolution cap and no export paywall. It is worth being honest about the limit — the v1 model is trained on people, so portraits, profile pictures and product shots with a person in them come out clean, while a lone object on a busy background may need a second look. CutOut never contacts Instagram at all.

CutOut is part of shotMod, a free hub of Instagram tools by SourceStrong AI, so the cutout you just made can go straight into GridSlice for the exact post size. Once your content is live, its sibling tool DMrun (dmrun.com) can turn the comments and DMs it earns into customers.
