MockShot

See a post, Reel cover or Story in Instagram's UI before you publish.

Everything you do here runs on your device — nothing is uploaded.

Instagram draws nothing over a feed photo — the caption and buttons sit below it, so there are no safe zones to show here.

Best-effort. A Reel link uses its cover image. If it fails, save the picture and drop it in — that always works.

Everything here runs on your device — the mockup is drawn in your browser and saved from it. Nothing is uploaded, and MockShot never contacts Instagram unless you paste a link yourself. HEIC photos your browser can't read itself are decoded by libheif, a separate LGPL-3.0 component fetched only when you open one. libheif licence & notice

MockShot — questions, answered

How do I make an Instagram post mockup for free?

Drop a photo into MockShot, pick the surface — feed post, Reel, Story or grid tile — and type the username, caption and like count you want to show. The mockup renders in your browser, so you can export it as a PNG at 1x or 2x with no watermark and no account.

How can I preview a Reel cover before posting it?

Choose the Reel surface and MockShot draws the right-hand action rail and the caption gradient over your cover, so you can see what the interface will hide before you publish. It is approximate on purpose — Instagram changes its layout — so treat it as a composition guide.

What are the Instagram Story safe zones in pixels?

Instagram publishes no safe-zone specification, so nobody can honestly quote one as fact. MockShot uses the same dated, clearly-unverified working margins FrameForge ships — roughly 250 px at the top and bottom of a 1080 x 1920 Story — and you can drag them and export the bands as a transparent PNG.

Is there a free Instagram mockup generator with no watermark?

Yes. MockShot is free with no watermark, no export limit and no sign-up, because the whole thing renders on your own device instead of on a server somebody has to pay for. There is nothing to meter, so 1x and 2x PNG exports are unlimited.

Does the Instagram post preview show the real app UI?

No, and it deliberately does not. MockShot draws simple neutral shapes where Instagram's own controls sit and never uses Instagram's logos or interface artwork, so treat every zone as approximate and re-check it on your own phone before you commit a design.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere to make the mockup?

No. The photo is decoded, composited and encoded entirely inside the browser tab, so nothing is uploaded and MockShot never contacts Instagram unless you paste a link yourself. You can confirm it in your browser's network inspector.

What is DMrun?

DMrun (dmrun.com) is shotMod's sibling product: AI Instagram DM automation that auto-replies to comments, Story replies and DMs to turn comments into customers. Once shotMod helps you make the content, DMrun helps you make money from it — 2,800+ creators run their DMs on it, with a free plan and a 2-minute setup.

About MockShot

MockShot is a free, on-device mockup tool from shotMod that shows you a post, Reel cover, Story or profile grid tile inside an approximate Instagram interface before you publish it. Drop in an image or grab a frame from a clip, pick the surface, type the username, caption and like count you want on it, then export a PNG at 1× or 2×. There's no login, no account and no API keys.

Every pixel is drawn in your browser with a plain 2D canvas, so nothing is uploaded and MockShot contacts Instagram only if you paste a link yourself. The interface it draws is deliberately approximate: it uses simple neutral shapes rather than Instagram's own logos or interface artwork, the safe-zone bands are the dated, unverified margins FrameForge publishes, and Instagram changes its layout without telling anyone. Check anything that matters against your own phone before you commit a design to it.

MockShot is part of shotMod, a free hub of Instagram tools by SourceStrong AI, so the cover you just checked can go straight into GridSlice for the exact post size or FrameForge for the frame itself. Once your content is live, its sibling tool DMrun (dmrun.com) can turn the comments and DMs it earns into customers.
