How do I remove EXIF data from a photo for free?

Drop the JPG, PNG or WebP into StripKit and hit Strip metadata. It deletes the EXIF, XMP, IPTC and C2PA blocks byte by byte and leaves the compressed image data untouched, so nothing is re-encoded and no quality is lost. The file never leaves your browser.

Does Instagram remove EXIF and GPS data from photos?

Instagram re-encodes what you upload and strips camera EXIF and GPS from the copy it serves publicly. That protects the photo on Instagram, not the original you email, DM, AirDrop or list on a marketplace — which is where StripKit is meant to run first.

Why does Instagram say my photo is AI when it isn't?

One common cause is an invisible metadata marker: an editor that used any generative feature can write IPTC DigitalSourceType or a C2PA manifest into the file. Open the photo in StripKit and the AI Label Preflight panel tells you whether that marker is actually there.

How do I check if an image has a C2PA manifest?

StripKit reads the file's bytes and reports every C2PA block it finds — the JPEG APP11 segments, the PNG caBX chunk or the BMFF uuid box — with its size and the claim generator name when that is readable. It reports what the bytes say and never issues a trust verdict.

Does removing metadata remove the Instagram AI label?

Not reliably. Metadata is only one of the three signals Meta says it uses; the other two are its own classifiers and the invisible watermarks some generators embed in the pixels, and neither of those can be read out of a file. Meta's own post concedes markers can be stripped.

Will stripping metadata reduce my photo's quality?

No. StripKit removes whole metadata segments and copies the compressed image data across unchanged, so the pixels are bit-identical to the original. The only optional exception is Rotate the pixels, which re-encodes on purpose to bake in the orientation tag.
